Program Description

Links to Young Adult Employment provides young immigrant and refugee mothers with training and support to develop long-term career plans and enter meaningful employment. Clients receive skills for success training, including digital skills building, Canadian workplace preparation, one-on-one career planning, mentoring, and employment skill training. The program is available to immigrant mothers who are permanent residents or refugees with a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 or higher. Ten weeks of classroom training is followed by 14 weeks of Canadian work experience.

Program Details

  • 10 weeks of paid employment and digital skills training which includes: career exploration, resume writing, mock interviews, job search assistance, oral and written business communication, Canadian workplace culture, and pronunciation support
  • 14 weeks of paid work placement in entry-level positions in office administration, accounting, marketing, IT, and health care
  • One-on-one individualized career planning sessions including labor market information, short and long-term Career Action Plan development

Eligible Clients

  • Immigrant mothers between 15-30 years of age
  • Permanent residents, refugees and citizens
  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 5 or higher in all 4 skills
  • Individuals receiving EI or non-EI

Additional Program Information

  • Digital skills enhancement and introduction to various soft-wares
  • Business communication and networking skills enhancement
  • Assistance with creating a 5-year Career Action Plan
  • Job search and job retention support after program completion
  • Mentorship by a professional immigrant woman
  • Referrals to other CIWA programs for additional support
  • Compensation for childcare and transportation costs
