16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

2 Dec, 2024

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign that runs annually from November 25th (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10th (Human Rights Day). This campaign aims to raise awareness and encourage action to end gender-based violence (GBV) globally.

Government of Alberta’s “16 Days, 16 Ways” Campaign

In Alberta, the campaign is highlighted through the “16 Days, 16 Ways” initiative. Each day of the campaign features activities designed to promote awareness, support survivors, and foster a culture of respect and equality to help empower Albertans to take concrete steps towards ending GBV in their communities.

National Campaign to End Gender-Based Violence: “Come Together, Act Now”

GOC Come Together, Act Now

The Government of Canada’s campaign theme “Come Together, Act Now” highlights the role of everyone, especially men and boys, in changing harmful social norms. Key activities include wearing purple on November 25, engaging on social media with #16Days, learning about GBV through various resources, participating in community events, and honoring the Polytechnique Montréal victims on December 6. To get involved, support survivors, educate yourself and others, speak out against violence, intervene safely, and contribute to organizations working to end GBV.
