CIWA Launches 2025 Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink Campaign: Empowering Immigrant Youth in Calgary

Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association (CIWA) is thrilled to announce our participation in the 2025 Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink campaign. This exciting initiative offers a unique opportunity for donors to maximize their impact and support immigrant and newcomer youth in Calgary.

Double Your Donation, Double Your Impact

By donating through the Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink portal, supporters can see their contributions go even further. For every donation made until August 31st, up to 50% will be matched, effectively amplifying the support for CIWA’s vital youth programs. This matching opportunity allows donors to make a more significant difference in the lives of immigrant youth in Calgary.

Empowering Immigrant Youth

CIWA’s Youth Collaborative comprises of programs and services that support the wellbeing and resiliency of immigrant girls as they transition in a successfully into life in Canada.

These include:

  • Well-being supports such as one on one counselling support, self-esteem workshops, opportunities to build social connections
  • Peer-to-peer mentorship
  • Leadership development
  • Civic educational sessions
  • Teambuilding activities
  • Educational and experiential field trips
  • Project development and management
  • Youth Standing Committee (forums, discussions and event planning opportunities)
  • Girls Culture Club (peer discussions about racism, identity and self-confidence)
  • Training on diversity, inclusion, anti-oppression, stereotyping, anti-racism, media engagement, conflict resolution, power and privilege, identity, and multiculturalism

Enhanced Services for Youth in Need

With the additional funding from Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink, CIWA can further enhance CIWA’s existing services for girls who are experiencing challenges as newcomers such as language barriers, social isolation, and gender-based violence. This includes:

Services for Vulnerable Youth

Case management support for girls and families impacted by abuse/violence

Build Social Network

Field trips to recreational activities to promote cultural integration

Support School Success

School resources for girls with financial need and customized homework for girls with language and learning challenges
