Labour Market Bridging for Volunteers: Interpretation and Translation is a 20-week, full-time training course designed to help bilingual professional women start careers as community interpreters and translators. The program runs twice a year, starting in April and October, with classes held from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Interpreter and Translator Training: Learn from experienced instructors
  • Certification Prep: Preparation classes for community interpreter certification exams, the Cultural Interpreter Language Interpretation Skills Assessment Test (CILISAT) and the Community Interpreter’s Code of Ethics (CI)
  • Translation Skills: Gain in-depth knowledge and practice.
  • Industry Insights: Hear from experts in fields like education, legal services, health services, family services, and the private sector
  • Job Search and Business Basics: Develop your job search skills and learn about starting your own business
  • Computer Skills: Learn to use Microsoft Office and translation software

Who Can Join:

  • Women with high school or post-secondary education
  • Permanent residents, refugees, or with CUET status
  • English speakers with a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 7 or higher
  • Participants who can commit to a full-time, in-person program for 5 months
