Simina Ionescu-Mocanu

Simina Ionescu-Mocanu is a banking and finance Partner at the law firm of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP. She immigrated to Canada in 1996 from Romania with her family and has called Calgary home since 2008.
Over the past 14 years, Simina has advised lenders and borrowers on complex debt financing transactions, providing specialized expertise across various sectors, including energy, healthcare, agribusiness, renewables, and aviation. Since 2020, Simina has been recognized as a leading lawyer in her field by The Legal 500 Canada and Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory. At BD&P, Simina maintains a strong commitment to mentorship, acting on its Student Hiring Committee from 2009-2018 and more recently becoming a formal associate mentor and articling student principal.
She is incredibly grateful for the mentorship and support she and her family received as newcomers and hopes to use this experience to empower others by volunteering with CIWA.
Outside of work, Simina enjoys spending time with her husband and two (very active!) young boys and participating in the many endurance running activities that Calgary has to offer.
