 Please join us in congratulating the recipients:

Abisola Adeyemi is an internationally trained medical doctor from Nigeria who relocated to Canada a mere four months ago. She is a young mom of a 3 year old, whose passion for medicine comes from a lifelong commitment to caring for people from all walks of life. Abisola has her eyes set on completing a series of requisite examinations that will enable her to apply for her license and pursue residency programs in family medicine, inching her way closer to becoming a family physician in Canada. 

 

Flora Ayaa Thomas Lokwatamoi immigrated to Canada in 2018 from South Sudan. Her recent completion of an accounting technician diploma from Robertson College inspired Flora to continue with payroll courses to improve her employment opportunities, and to be able to educate others on financial literacy and empowerment. As a mother of a 3 year old and an 18 months old, Flora believes that financial education enables immigrant women to make informed decisions for themselves and their families.

 

Sathya Balakrishnan, originally from India, holds a Master’s in Commerce degree. Presently, she is enrolled in a medical office assistant course and hopes to continue on with accounting courses in preparation of a career as an accountant. Sathya looks to CIWA to boost her confidence and access supports for herself and her two children: a 4-year-old preschooler and a 7 months old baby.

 

Comfort Ujattah is an internationally trained dentist with over 3 years’ work experience in dental and administrative field from Nigeria. She is also a young mom of an 11 months old baby, who charted out her own career path and established solid goals for herself in attaining them. Comfort is currently in the process of credential evaluation through the Dental Examining Board which will enable her to pursue her dream of becoming a dentist in Canada.

 

Chunky Kunjam John, has completed her Bachelor’s in Commerce degree in India.  She arrived to Canada six months ago and welcomed a new addition to the family, a baby boy, just 2 months ago. Chunky is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants as an affiliate. She is aiming to get her designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant in Canada, which will allow her to specialize in internal and external audits, a dream of hers.

 

Airat Abu is an internationally trained lawyer from Nigeria. She is passionate about alternative dispute resolution and labour/employment law. A litigator par excellence and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitration, United Kingdom, Airat held the role of Employee Relations Officer in a financial institution in Nigeria. She has written two exams of the requisite five and hopes to write the remaining three exams so that she can obtain her certificate of qualification and apply for an articling position in late 2023.
