Our Programs
CIWA is dedicated to serving the needs of newcomers to Calgary, representing over 140 countries and 135 languages. These individuals arrive in Calgary with varying levels of English proficiency and diverse educational and professional experiences. Approximately 45% of the immigrant women we assist possess a Bachelor’s degree, college/trade certificate, or higher education, along with professional work experience from their home country. Conversely, over 30% of women have less than 12 years of education.
CIWA provides women, including newcomers to Calgary, with the knowledge and support necessary to address the settlement challenges they face, including employment, community engagement, resource access, English communication, cross-cultural parenting, role reversal, and more. Our services also extend to supporting senior immigrant women and immigrant girls who, as newcomers, encounter unique settlement experiences due to factors such as age, level of independence, physical health, and surroundings. Balancing societal expectations with cultural and familial obligations poses challenges for both seniors and youth.
To address the diverse needs of immigrant and refugee women, including newcomers to Calgary, and their families, CIWA offers a wide range of programs and services related to settlement, language acquisition, employment, and family support.
