Network with Newcomers
Meet with immigrant women looking for employment or starting their career in Canada. Landing a first job in Canada can be daunting for a newcomer. There are many nuances that newcomers learn, from formatting a resume, to writing a cover letter, to learning communication strategies during an interview. By attending a Networking Event, you are helping immigrant women prepare for landing their dream job.
Host a Work Placement
Support immigrant women enrolled in a CIWA program. One of the barriers to employment and full integration in a new country is a lack of Canadian work experience. By hosting a work placement, you are providing immigrant women practical knowledge of the Canadian work environment and making long term impact on their future.
Hire Graduates
Provide employment opportunities to CIWA alumni. Immigrant women access CIWA’s employment services to find support for a range of education and experience levels, from foundational literacy learners entering the labour market for the first time to professionals establishing their career in Canada. By hiring a CIWA alumna, you are supporting the economic security of immigrant women and their families.
Refer Job Seekers
When you encounter immigrant women seeking employment who are not employment ready, please send them to CIWA. CIWA’s bridge-to-work programs build effective employability skills to ensure immigrant women are job ready. Immigrant women with low-skills, mid-skills as well as trained professionals receive free training to prepare for employment in childcare, retail, food service, security, customer service, office administration, accounting, interpretation and translation, and much more. By referring newcomers to CIWA, you help immigrant women build occupational skills, essential skills, and learn about Canadian workplace culture and the labour market.
Adopt a Family
Share the spirit of giving by adopting an immigrant woman and her family by donating unused household items, baby supplies, store gift cards, food and/or children’s clothes, books or toys. You can also make it a team building event by engaging your colleagues, friends or family members. The Adopt A Family project is a year round activity.
Become a CIWA Friend
Support the sustainability of CIWA programs to help us continue helping immigrant women thrive and succeed. Friends of CIWA can make a one-time or recurring tax-deductible donation towards clients’ needs at CIWA.
Sponsor a Food Drive
Support the food security of immigrant women in low-income households. Sponsors can make a one-time or recurring donation to host a food drive, where families can receive a box of non-perishable items.
Donate to CIWA
Do you love our mandate and want to help ensure we are around for years to come? Make a tax deductible donation to CIWA today. Your one-time or recurring donation will help us continue the important work of helping immigrant women and their families thrive in Canadian society. All donations above $25 are tax deductible.
