Meet Myla, CIWA’s Food Service Training Coordinator: The Face of CIWA for the month of December.
“Myla consistently goes above and beyond to support others with a positive attitude and a willingness to help. Myla’s commitment and contributions make her an essential part of our team.” – CIWA Staff
A Journey of Dedication and Service
Myla has been part of CIWA for the past five and a half years. Before joining CIWA, she spent nearly 12 years as a People Manager in the corporate sector, specializing in training and recruitment. Her transition to CIWA was inspired by a strong desire to give back to the community and support fellow immigrants in their journey toward training and employment. “A part of me always felt a strong desire to give back to the community and support fellow immigrants in their journey toward training and employment,” she shares.
A Story of Family Reunification
Myla’s immigration journey began 18 years ago when she moved from the Philippines to Canada as a Foreign Worker. The transition was challenging, as she had to leave her family behind and start anew in a country without friends or relatives. Despite these hurdles, Myla remained focused and positive, determined to build a stable life. After six years of hard work and sacrifice, she was finally able to reunite with her family in Canada, a moment of immense joy and fulfillment.
“Serving our community has been a true blessing and deeply fulfilling experience. I’ve had the privilege of training and supporting clients in the food industry, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see them secure employment and provide financial stability for their families.” – Myla Felipe
To immigrant women, girls, and their families, Myla offers words of encouragement: stay strong and focused on your goals. “Being an immigrant in a new country can feel lonely at first, but over time, you’ll find new friends and build a sense of family. Stay strong and keep your focus on what you want to achieve. There’s plenty of support available if you need it. CIWA is just one of the non-for-profit organizations dedicated to helping immigrants and their families to succeed in Canada.”
Myla and Volunteering
Outside of work, Myla enjoys dancing and hiking. She is also actively involved in various volunteer roles, including Marketing Manager at the Filipino Canadian Women’s Association Cooperative (FCWC), Assistant Secretary at the Philippine Cultural Centre Foundation (PCCF), Treasurer at the Maharlika Women’s Association of Calgary (MWAC), a member of the Women’s Adventure Network, and a new member of the Ex-O Dance Group.
Myla’s dedication to her work and community makes her a deserving Face of CIWA for December. We are proud to have her as part of our team and look forward to seeing her continue to make a positive impact.
