Celebrate International Women’s Day with us!

6 Mar, 2023

We are thrilled to announce exciting partnerships and upcoming events in honour of International Women’s Day. Come join CIWA’s celebrations!

Celebrate with us at Southcentre Mall

Southcentre Mall has partnered with CIWA in a multi-day celebration to showcase CIWA’s programs, resources, and overall impact in the Calgary community. Kicking off on Wednesday, March 8th and running until March 12th, the campaign will highlight the stories of unsung heroes and immigrant women who have impacted and contributed to society in meaningful ways. Visit the special CIWA Marketplace at the mall, where you can purchase a variety of handcrafted items produced by our Arts & Crafts Volunteer Program.

Come and meet the team from March 8th to March 12th during mall hours!

Meet the Siebens Jeam Scholarship Fund recipients

Karl and Brenda Jeam (nee Jim Kar Son and Gladys Kum Thoe Ho) travelled a long journey to build their family in Canada. From Karl’s humble beginnings in southern China as an orphan and Brenda’s dream of an international nursing career, both of them depended upon the kindness and support of others. The Jeam Dream Fund was created in honour of Karl and Brenda Jeam to assist hard working immigrants who dream of completing their education and building their lives in Canada. Karl and Brenda shared this dream and created the fund to help others follow in their footsteps.

The Jeam Dream Fund has partnered with CIWA to establish a scholarship entitled “Siebens Jeam International Women’s Day Scholarship” that will enable two immigrant women to pursue their educational goals in Canada.

Visit the Southcentre Mall on Wednesday, March 8th, from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm, to meet this year’s recipients!

Join the Intergenerational Storytelling

Women Owned Narratives is hosting an event to come together, hear and learn from each other’s stories for a better tomorrow for all women.

The Intergenerational Storytelling features a resource fair and a panel discussion including CIWA’s very own, Onyinye Odih, author of the book, “A Mother’s Love”.

Come and engage in vibrant discussions about women supporting one another! Visit Calgary Central Library on Saturday, March 11th, from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Registration is free! Click here to learn more.
