Staff Appreciation Day
CIWA staff enjoyed Staff Appreciation Day at the Calgary Zoo on August 20th. Over
160 staff came together to celebrate this year’s accomplishments as well as meet or
reconnect with others. The day was filled with fun and laughter.
Bridge to Success for Professional Immigrant Women
Bridge to Success for Professional Immigrant Women (BTS) project celebrated the
completion of its first intake on August 3rd with over 70 people in attendance. During
the project, clients were placed in a practicum in their fields of expertise and gained
valuable Canadian work experience. Congratulations BTS graduates! We wish these
ladies all the best in the future.

Assessment Tools for Skills, Needs and Progress of ESL Literacy Learners
Assessment Tools for Skills, Needs and Progress of ESL Literacy Learners was a two-
year long research project funded by Calgary Learns and Alberta Labour. The project
provides support to teachers who are working with ESL adults with low literacy. Teaching
strategies and sample lesson plans are included to help instructors understand how to
Modular Training Program
CIWA’s Modular Training Program equips immigrant and refugee women with tools and
strategies to enhance their employability in institutional cleaning, hospitality as hotel
room attendants and food services industry. New intakes occur regularly. If you know an
