Welcome to the Calgary Immigrant Women's Association's bi-monthly Grapevine Newsletter! CIWA launches nominations for Daughters' Day Awards as part of Youth Forum Nominations are open for CIWA's inaugural Daughters' Day Awards. The awards, founded in Edmonton, aim to raise awareness about gender discrimination as well as recognize daughters who are making a significant contribution to their communities. Recipients of the Daughters' Day Awards will be awarded at Youth Forum on February 14, 2015. More information is available online.
CIWA presents at the Innovative Language Programs Knowledge Mobilization Symposium On Thursday, October 23rd, CIWA presented at the Innovative Language Programs Knowledge Mobilization Symposium, held in Edmonton. It was hosted by the government of Alberta. CIWA presented on their research project: Building Skills and Expertise for Working with Struggling English Language Learners. CIWA presented to 40 attendees, sharing an overview of the project and the successes and challenges along the way. Food Industry Project Launched
CIWA and five business partners are pleased to announce a new employment training initiative. Immigrant women with limited English now have the option to prepare for potential employment with one of the following organizations: Tim Hortons, McDonald’s, Subway, A&W and Boston Pizza. The Food Service Industry project focuses on occupational English training. It will include Essential Skill development alongside food service specific skills such as customer service, food safety and cash register skills. This project made possible by:
