Monah Gichuyia is a trained lawyer with over 10 years of experience practicing law in Calgary and in Kenya.
Born and raised in Kenya, Monah relocated to Canada to pursue a Master of Laws degree at the University of Calgary. She holds, as well, a Master of Laws Degree and a Bachelor of Laws Degree both from the University of Nairobi in Kenya; along with an Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Monah has vast experience advising on a range of corporate and securities matters and is well versed in corporate governance issues.
Monah believes in giving back. She has been involved in various charities and volunteer groups, including the Rotary Club. Volunteering with CIWA is, therefore, an opportunity for her to participate in the improvement of women’s lives who are walking a similar path that she walked when she first moved here. In her spare time, Monah enjoys the outdoors, making and meeting friends, and exploring different cultures.
"Having moved to Calgary without knowing anyone, and with no family, I experienced firsthand the challenges of immigrating to a new country and into a new culture. I had to adapt, make friends, know where to apply for a health card, open a bank account, where to live and also how to prepare for the long winters! I relied heavily on the kindness of the friends I made along the way. I now want to support CIWA and be that friend to someone else who is immigrating into Canada and might be facing similar challenges."
