The program helps immigrant women who are permanent residents learn English.
Program Details
- English language education (part-time classes)
- free childcare for children 6 months to 6 years old
- reading, writing and pronunciation support
- one-on-one language support and mentoring
- communication enhancement
- computer and technology use
- health education
- community resources information and referral
Eligible Clients
The program is available to all permanent residents. A Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) assessment is required for enrolment.
Additional Program Information
- the program has three intakes a year:
- April – July
- August – November
- November – March
- classes are offered part-time:
- morning 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- afternoon 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM - evening 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- the program offers field trips and group visits to different places in Calgary
- guest speakers provide diverse learning experiences for participants
- language learning is supported through the use of computers and other technologies
- the program offers one-on-one language support through individual mentoring component
- referrals to other CIWA programs help participants access additional support services
Free childcare and first language support is available.
